NO Decisions For April

Distribution of a newsletter continues to be a hot topic at the Holiday Island Suburban Improvement District commissioner board meetings.
The purpose of the newsletter is to keep nonresident property owners informed about the events and organizations in Holiday Island.
The board indicated that they would like to see the new incentive program included in the letter with the expectation that the information would help slow down the amount of turn-back lots occurring this year. The cost for distribution is approximately $2200.
Commissioners Griswold and Dolce are in agreement that providing a print form of the news at Holiday Island and the Incentive Program to non-resident property owners is essentially a first consideration for a prosperous end result.
Commissioner Larson is not favoring a newsletter with a price tag of $2200 that does not include resident property owners in receiving information about Holiday Island or the Incentive Program.
Commissioner Dolce has a perspective on exactly how the newspaper should present information regarding Holiday Island.
The district manager pointed out that the newsletter is not a free piece with the newspaper. The layout of the letter is priced under the same rate scale as the newspaper's print advertisement rates and the district is charged that amount. Currently the bi-annual newsletter is charged as advertisement.
Commissioner Janky pointed out several times that the newspaper in question takes subscriptions for under $30 per year.
Commissioner Hanson's concerns were whether the district might need the budgeted marketing money in the future for other unforeseen expenses.
There were several motions made at the board table that died for a lack of a second. The board will conduct a budget review starting in May. The early review is being conducted to keep the financial in alignment with the community needs.
At the previous meetings the capital improvements were suspended. A greater part of capital improvements at Holiday Island comes under the road department.
The current high rainfall has impacted many roads. There are some roads that have sunk, some roads have slid off the hillside, low water bridges went under rapid moving water with the road crew working in the high water and roadside drainage areas are filled with debris.
The Beaver Dam locks were opened causing Table Rock Lake to rise to flood stage.
The next board meeting is scheduled for May 23 with the work session scheduled for May 16. Both meetings are held at the district office and begin at 9 a.m.
